Avian Balloon Company was founded by Forey Walter
in1974.Avianclaimsthedistinctionofbeingtheoldest
balloonmanufacturing company in the United States which
still hasitsoriginal name and management.
Avian manufacturessix different models under its four
FAATypeCertificates.Envelopesrangefrom42,000to
160,000cubic feet involume. All envelopes are horizontal
cut and are offered in 16, 20, 24 and 28 gore styles depending
onthe envelope’svolume. AtAvianBalloon Companywe
realizeeachenvelopedesignisunique,andisapersonal
extension of the owner. That’s why Avian has never offered
standardcolordesignedenvelopesandneverwill.Every
envelopewemakeiscustomdesignedbyourcustomers
using our standard 1.9 oz./sq. yd balloonfabric coatedwith
either silicone or urethane. Wealso offer anextended war-
ranty fabric calledRhino-Tough Tear asan option.
High performance burners and their simplicity in design
have alwaysbeenourmottoandour trademark.From our
superior fuel flow “Ball” blastvalve,toour blowoutproof
pilot lights, we’ve kept up to date inburner technology and
performance.But where others added items and complexity
totheir burners, we have eliminated parts. For instance our
“Ball”valvedesignusedinbothourblastandpilotlight
valveshasonlytwomovingpartsmakingour burnersthe
most trouble free burnersavailable onthe market today.
All Avian baskets are woven vertically and use only the
available. The vertical weave
contruction is more time consuming and expensive to weave,
but thisdesignhasproventobefarsuperior than conven-
tionalhorizontaldesigns.Theverticalweavegivesthe
basketlessresistancewiththegroundindraglandings. It
also enables the step to become an integral part of the basket,
not an after thought which can be seen on horizontal weave
basket designs. The same design feature that strengthens the
step is also used in thebasket lifting areas. There are 8 lifting
handlesoneverybasket.Theyare locatedatboth sidesof
each corner and areatached to the basket’s large vertical pole
super structure. These polesare not wovenintothe basket
weave thus givingthe basket astronger liftingpoint.This
feature allows for easyreplacementof thehandlesif ever
theybecomedamaged.Allbasketsaretrimmedinsuede
leatheron the handrailandburner supports,while thestep
and bottom are covered in rawhide leather. Wood skid plates
cover theouterperimeter of the basket and all support cables.
This adds extra strength to the basket bottom. We also offer
our T.S. Plastic as an option to the skidplates makingthem
vertuallyindestructible.
